Böle-Fallsbjörken

Böle-Fallsbjörken is the best preserved grazing landscape in Leksand municipality. The views here can give a small hint of how open the landscape was in these areas over 100 years ago.

The view around Böle-Fallsbjörken is magnificent, with rolling hills and flower-rich pastures. Horses and young cattle have been grazing here since the 1920s. The open pastoral landscape of old, with fields and hay meadows, is still kept open in the approximately 70-hectare fenced area. The stallion release in early summer has attracted many visitors to the area over the years, but the open natural pastures are worth visiting all year round.

Exciting species and Natura 2000 site

The soils here are rich in limestone, which is why several unusual plants and fungi thrive here, such as field gentian, eelgrass and common groundsel. The slope down to Bölsån is rich in species, and when you visit in May, the flowering cowslips contribute to a pink shimmering slope and a slightly horse-like scent.

Böle-Fallsbjörken is protected as a Natura 2000 area, which means that it is part of a network of the most valuable natural areas in Europe. The Siljan trail passes Böle and Fallsbjörken, and in Böle there is a rest house - an old sheep farm.
