Väggaskolan

The school "Väggaskolan" is architect Gunnar Asplund's first work.

In 1912 it was decided that a secondary school would be built in Karlshamn. An architectural competition was announced, which the very famous architect Gunnar Asplund won.

The oldest building, the so-called A-house or "old school", was built in 1917. This part has a national romantic touch that is inspired by the castle of history.

The first extension was made 20 years later and was also designed by Gunnar Asplund. Here are all the characteristics of functionalism.

Today the school is used as a secondary school and a third building has been added. Väggaskolan's A and B buildings were declared a building monument in 1993.
