Beskrivelse

In the Tallet nature reserve you can experience a natural forest with old pines and spruces. It has grown up on burnt land, probably in the early 1800s.

The Tallet nature reserve consists of coniferous natural forest with old pine and spruce. Most of the forest has been voluntarily protected by the landowner since 1884. The first formal protection for part of the area was implemented in 1961.

Old pine forest

The pine forest is a fine example of a natural forest that has been protected for a very long time, having been created after slash-and-burn agriculture and then allowed to develop freely. The oldest trees in the area are around 200 years old. In the past, the forest was dominated by pine and birch, but today spruce has spread more and more in the area. The trees are coarse and high-stemmed. There is plenty of dead wood in the form of dry bark, high stumps and flames. The vegetation is species-poor and consists mainly of patches of bilberry and lingonberry, as well as squirrels and creeping thistle. Several red-listed or otherwise unusual species occur in the area, including the small coniferous forest orchid knotweed.
