Beskrivelse
Skarup is a fine example of forest grazing, a type of nature that is now rare. The reserve is dominated by sparse spruce forest, with elements of free-growing spruces with a low crown, so-called skirt spruces. At the western edge of the area there are large wide-crowned oaks and dense groups of hazel.
Forest grazing
The nature reserve consists of grazed forest on a stretch of hill south of Skarup village. The area is a genuine forest pasture. Spruce dominates alongside many other tree and shrub species. Pine is an important element. In the western part of the area there are old oaks and dense groups of hazel. There are also small areas of rocky ground in the sparse and patchy forest.
Unusual species
A characteristic feature is coarse, wide-crowned spruces, with a low crown, known as skirt spruces. In several of these, traces of the red-listed wood-boring beetle, the green lizard, have been found. Other examples of unusual and interesting species in the area are the small decaying lichen that grows on old oaks, the chanterelle mussel that grows on dead hardwood, and the lichens glossy spot and rust spot.

Rutevejledning
The nature reserve is located in the village of Skarup, just west of highway 27. A parking lot is planned south of the reserve, with reference from the highway.
Regler
You are welcome to visit Skarup, but please note that it is not allowed to
- damage land, destroy or damage solid natural objects or surface formations,
- prospect for minerals,
- damage stone walls, cairns or other cultural-historical remains,
- unreasonably disturb wildlife
- damage living or dead trees and shrubs, or vegetation in general, remove or destroy dead wood
- pick mosses, lichens or wood-living fungi, other than what is reasonably necessary for species identification
- capture and collect invertebrates in such a way as to damage or destroy their biotopes or reproductive habitats
- introducing plant or animal species alien to the area, as well as breeds/types alien to the area
- bring an unleashed dog during the grazing season other than when herding cattle or hunting
- drive motorized vehicles, ride or cycle other than on existing roads within the reserve,
- camping or otherwise setting up camp for more than one day,
- set up a caravan/mobile home or similar for overnight stays,
- make a fire.
Without permission from the county administrative board, you may not
- conduct scientific research involving sampling, marking, trapping, installation of equipment or any form of impact on plant or animal life
- use the area for competitions, exercises or other organized activities that may disturb nature or the public's outdoor life
- put up a board, poster, sign, signpost, inscription or similar device, other than temporarily (for a maximum of one week) in connection with hunting or in connection with organized outdoor activities.
