Beskrivelse
Malkvarn is a rock, or a skerry, just under two kilometres north-east of the island of Hanö. It forms the top of a smaller residual mountain that is 25–30 metres high. Besides solid rock, there are detached blocks of stone and a bottom of smooth sand. Sometimes white-tailed sea-eagles can be seen here, or seals lying on the rocks. The rock was a site for seal hunting in the past and holes made by seal hooks can still be seen in the rockface. Malkvarn is also an exciting diving site as the rocks and stones have created a beautiful landscape with several tunnels. If you want to dive using a guide line, it’s easy as the bottom quickly shelves downwards. A marine biology survey conducted by Linnaeus University shows that Malkvarn is home to a dense blue mussel population which performs an important ecosystem function. Malkvarn has therefore been designated the first protected marine biotope area in Blekinge. If you are interested in diving or perhaps a high-speed trip by rigid inflatable boat in the area, contact Hanö Dyk & Ribcharter. Source: Sydöstran
