Beskrivelse

Loberget is located in the upper part of the Mieån valley. Here you can experience a cultural-historical landscape with farmland around the farm from the early 1800s and surrounding wooded outlands.

The farm buildings, which are not part of the nature reserve, have largely retained their original character. Within the reserve, there have also been at least four crofts at different times, one of which was used until the 1930s. The crofting environment here is still visible with house foundations, fruit trees and pollarded trees.

Ice river deposits and inland fields

The nature reserve rises above Mieån on its western side. Along the river valley runs a sharply marked goat ridge-shaped gravel ridge. On the valley side around the farm there are also terraced glacial river deposits, which were previously cultivated fields, but are now grazed. Species such as cowslip, maidenhair fern, meadow violet, summer saxifrage, spring savory and knotweed thrive in the dry, open grasslands. Cultivation cairns and pollarded trees are found in connection with the former fields.

There are also oak-dominated deciduous forests on the old farmland. The heath flora is rich in places, with species such as woodland bengal, heather, witch hazel, cranberry and fern. In a spring marsh in the southern part of the meadow there is a large population of the downy moss, which is rare in southern Sweden.

Natural forests and marshes

There is a sharp boundary between the former inland area and the outlying land to the west of it. The oak forest becomes a coniferous forest with spruce and pine and plenty of dead wood in various stages of decomposition. The ground is covered with bilberries and abundant mosses, such as western hook moss, wavy silk moss and large cushions of blue moss. In the marshy areas there are pine and deciduous swamps with water hemlock and tufa in the field layer. In the center of the outfield is Logylet, which is a nutrient-poor brown-water lake surrounded by marshes. In the western part of the reserve there are areas with older beech trees.

Pleasant for wood-dwelling beetles

Wood-dwelling beetles thrive in the forests, such as the single-colored bark beetle, which lives under the bark of old beech trees. The six-spotted flower beetle lives as a larva in fallen parts of older oaks.

Bird life is also rich, with species such as the capercaillie, wolverine, pearl owl, kingfisher, skylark, green wren and lesser spotted woodpecker.
