Handlinger

Beskrivelse

Långehall nature reserve consists mainly of deciduous forest that has been untouched for a long time. The terrain is rocky and partly mountainous, and is a challenge for those who enjoy hiking in inaccessible forest areas.

The forest is a mixture of mainly hornbeam, beech, aspen and pine with elements of oak, birch and spruce. There are also small bogs and swamp forests interspersed in the area. Some beech and hornbeam trees are multi-stemmed or sparsely branched, which indicates that the landscape was previously more open and probably grazed. There is a large amount of dead wood. In the northwest is the steep Urberget, and in the southwest a small part of Stensjön.

Rare soil fungi

Since the area has been untouched for a long time, large amounts of dead wood in various stages of decomposition have accumulated. This provides good conditions for a rich insect life and plenty of soil fungi. The grape finger fungus, the splendid finger fungus and the pale finger fungus are examples of rare soil fungi in the reserve, which require undisturbed soil.

Peat deposit

In the northern part of the reserve there are the remains of a croft with house foundations, stone walls, cairns and a terraced field. The croft was built on a large stone which was used as a wall. In the beginning of the 20th century, a man lived in the croft and farmed the land in the area.
