Beskrivelse
Enjoy the bright greenery of spring and the vibrant colors of autumn in the lush deciduous forest. Here you can experience many different species of plants, fungi and animals.
Species-rich broadleaf forests
The broadleaf forest within the nature reserve is one of the county's most protected forest areas. The forest is dominated by oak and hornbeam with an unusually large proportion of lime and hazel.
The Swedish Forest Agency has designated 10 key biotopes within the nature reserve and the county administrative board has registered almost 300 trees worthy of protection. Many trees are old and there are traces of pollarding. Several unusual species and signal species have been found in the area, such as the violet finger fungus, pink lichen, lesser spotted woodpecker and the butterfly reed-tipped crested flycatcher.
Greenstone
The area's bedrock consists largely of greenstone, which is exposed in several places. Greenstone is a collective name for dark greenish, basic rocks. The greenstone gives rise to a very rich grove flora for Blekinge, with species such as water lily, bush starflower, tooth root, cornflower, spring pea, lungwort, and grove lichen. In several of the area's stone walls you can see the black and typically angular greenstone blocks. They contrast in color and shape with the round and lighter granite blocks.
Pastures and historical traces
Some smaller parts of the nature reserve consist of more open natural pastures, with species such as brome, maidenhair fern, blue heather and yellow poppy. Traces of previous land use are also visible in many places in the reserve. North of the main road, in the western part, there is, for example, a farmstead and a fine lane. Scattered throughout the reserve are cairns and stone walls. On a mountain ridge in the southern part, you can see ancient remains in the form of some stone circles.
Outdoor life and accessibility
Jämsunda nature reserve is an exciting area to wander in. The reserve is crossed by several gravel roads, forest roads and paths, but there are no marked trails. The reserve does not currently have a parking lot, but parking is available adjacent to road 669. The nature reserve lacks outdoor facilities and is not accessible.
