Isaks Kläpp is the only seal protection area in Blekinge, even though seals can be found in several places along the county’s coastline.The harbour seal colony here has been known for a long time and is genetically different from the harbour seals in the North Sea.

One theory is that these seals may be a remnant of the very first seals that colonised the Baltic Sea.

Isaks Kläpp is one of three highly important sites for the Baltic harbour seal population during birth, nursing and moulting.The other two key locations are Värnanäs and Eckelsudde in Kalmar County.Harbour seals prefer coastal areas with shallow waters where they can hunt fish, and they need safe resting places on sandbanks or small rocky islets.

The seal protection area at Isaks Kläpp covers nearly 125 hectares and is prohibited to enter from April 1 to September 30.
