Beskrivelse
Grindstugan is an area with oak groves that have been used by man for a long time. Here you will find a large number of large oaks with wide crowns. The slightly hilly and mosaic-like landscape is a beautiful natural experience.
A stone settlement from the Iron Age indicates that people have lived in the area far back in history. Most of the reserve is grazed by cattle and the spring flora is rich with, among other things, fine areas of wood anemone.
The high natural values are primarily linked to the very old oaks. They are home to many species of lichens, fungi and wood insects worthy of protection.
The name Grindstugan
The nature reserve is named after Grindstugan, which was located here next to the old road from Karlskrona. Grindstugan was located near the boundaries of larger farms or estates, where the road led to the property. The guard in the gatehouse opened and closed the gate and made sure that no unauthorized persons entered the property.
Species-rich oak habitats
The oak is one of the most species-rich natural environments in Sweden. Around 400-500 lichens, fungi and mosses and 800-900 different insects are more or less dependent on the oak for their survival.
Grindstugan is home to a number of highly endangered species, including the wood fungi teardrop and oxtongue, the beetles oak bark beetle and leatherback beetle, and the lichens matt spotted lichen and old oak lichen.
Thanks to the fact that the trees have been allowed to grow very old, the biodiversity has become great. The abundance of dead wood in various stages of decomposition means that species with special requirements have found a habitat.
Rich plant and bird life
Vascular plants that grow in the oak garden include bluebell, cat's foot, clove, solstice, creeping thyme, wood anemone, maidenhair, meadow rattle, almond blossom and meadowsweet. There are also hawthorn, blackthorn, juniper and rosehip bushes. The tree hollows are popular nesting sites for starlings, wood pigeons, greenfinches and barn owls.
