If you look closely, you can see the remains of an old croft and barn in the woods behind the parking lot. Nearby, you'll also find gooseberries, wild grapevine and autumn aster, all plants of North American origin. These, together with the name of the farmhouse - America - have given their name to the whole nature reserve.
