Hullsjön, Naturreservat

Hullsjön is a small, shallow lake of great importance to bird life. Over 200 species are spotted here every year, and the area is an important stopover for migratory birds.

In the spring and fall, large numbers of birds are drawn here, especially geese, swans, and ducks. That’s when you’ll have a chance to see species such as the wigeon, teal, and whooper swan. And you never know what might show up! The ring-necked duck is one example of a rare species that has been spotted here. It’s normally found in North America. There are birds to watch even during the rest of the year.

You can experience the birdlife from several locations. At Klockemot (Sydkullen), on the western side of the lake, there’s a birdwatching tower, a picnic table, and informational signs about Hullsjön’s nature and birdlife. A bit further south, there’s also an observation platform.

To the north, you’ll find both a bird tower and a hide. The nearest reserve parking lot is at Mulltorp Preschool. From there, follow the walking path and signs down to the tower and the hide.

Good to know: To protect the birdlife, it is prohibited to enter most of the reserve from March 15 to November 15. The bird towers, the hide, the observation platform, and the trails leading to them are there specifically so you can experience Hullsjön without disturbing the birds, even during this period.
