Ornö: Svinåkerområdet

The area between Hemträsk and the small Brakträsk on northern Ornö is a paradise for those interested in plants. There are a large number of rare species of mosses, ferns and flowering plants. The steep mountains are largely made up of weathered limestone, where rare species such as mountain helleborine, wallflower, alvar heritage, colored marigold and St. Persian keys grow. The slopes are covered in places with mosses such as calcareous moss and calcareous rosemary, and in high summer the graceful grass grackle waves all over the mountains. In the hollows, lush meadows and lush deciduous forest spread out. Some of the rare species hiding in the deciduous groves are toothwort, musk madder, under-violet, the orchids two-leaf, helleborine and the rare swordwort. The area is also home to the rare hazel dormouse.
