Beskrivelse
The building that has come to be known as "Danviken's madhouse" is a former saltworks from the 1680s that was used as a mental hospital from 1788 to 1861. It was then an annex to Danviken Hospital.
The author Zacharias Topelius has described life in the madhouse in a section of Fältskärns berättelser. It probably has its background in the fact that his father was a doctor in the district: "The poor fools were taken out into the courtyard so that their horrible stables could finally be cleaned, and they watched the glorious spring sun with dull, extinguished eyes ... icing sugar was spread on all the floors, the fools were scrubbed clean and dressed like people".
