Beskrivelse

In Skönabäck's nature conservation area, you will find a lush broadleaf forest next to Lake Borgasjön and Skönabäck manor. Part of the beech forest closest to the lake has very old trees and has an almost park-like character. Skönabäck comes into its own in spring and early summer when the spring flora is at its most beautiful and the bird choir sings most intensely.

The grounds of the estate

Until 1811, the land where Skönabäck nature conservation area is located belonged to Brodda manor, which was one of Skåne's largest landowners. A few years after the land was divided, Skönabäck received its own manorial rights. Where the manor house was built, there used to be a ravine that was dammed up during construction and gave rise to the lake, Borgasjön, that we see today.

Wildlife

The nature conservation area is located in a largely open agricultural area and therefore constitutes a valuable forest environment for many animals and birds. Many of our more common small birds occur here, as well as buzzards and red kites that are often seen patrolling the area. Deer, wild boar and fox are also regularly found in Skönabäck.

In English

Welcome to Skönabäck Nature Conservation Area

A lush broad-leaved deciduous forest grows around Lake Borgasjön in Skönabäck Nature Conservation Area. Part of the beech forest nearest the lake includes some very old trees and has an almost park-like char-acter. Skönabäck is the most beautiful in spring, when the ground is covered in flowers and the birds sing most intensively.

In the past, the area belonged to the Brodda Estate, one of the biggest landowners of the time. Until the end of the 18th century, it was part of the extensive outlaying land on the Romeleåsen Ridge. When Skönabäck Manor was built in the early 19th century, the water in the ravine was dammed up, forming Lake Borgasjön that is here today.

Skönabäck now provides a valuable forest habitat for many birds and other animals, forming a green island in a largely open agricultural landscape. Many of Sweden's most common small birds are found here, as well as buzzard and red kite, which are often seen patrolling the area. Roe deer, wild boar and fox are regularly found in Skönabäck.
