Ljungskogens o Ljunghusens strandbad, Naturreservat

The reserve covers part of the southern coastal strip of the Falsterbo peninsula. Visitors will find flat sandy beaches, dunes, reefs and a pine forest that was planted to prevent sand drift. The area has a rich bird life and during the summer the beach is very popular with bathers.

Forest, moor and sea

The sea and the winds play with the sand along the southern shore of Falsterbonäset. After heavy storms, sandbanks and reefs find new locations. Then it's time to walk along the beach in search of the sea's gold - amber.

The heather forest was once planted to prevent the sand from migrating even up on land. Today there are sand dunes with sea rye and sand sedge interspersed among the trees. The idea is that the pine forest will one day be replaced by oak. Further up on land you will find the heather. On warm days, the flowers buzz with life.

Beaches for birds and people

In the west, where the overgrown lagoons with reeds and seagrass spread out, birds thrive. Here you can see, among other things, avocets, redshanks, greater sandpipers and lapwings.

No trespassing on Ängsnäset

The reserve borders Ängsnäset, an area that is forbidden to enter during the spring and until mid-July to protect the birds' nesting. Swimming and outdoor activities may instead take place in the eastern parts.

Outdoor life

If you want to get through Ljungskogen-Ljunghusen's beach bath, Skåneleden is the obvious trail to follow, it takes you further out on the peninsula and you go west. The reserve is popular with bathers during the summer. In the right winds, wind and kite surfers can also be seen enjoying the speed and waves. There are several parking lots in the eastern part where there are also toilets. Remember to take your rubbish home. The nearest bus stop is Ljunghusen Storvägen, about 2 km north.

Ljungskogen-Ljunghusen's beach bath is one of nine nature reserves around the Falsterbo peninsula. There are good outdoor recreation opportunities in the area, including hiking, bird watching and swimming. The Skåneleden trail (SL5 Öresund, stages 20 and 21) takes you around the entire peninsula. Remember that the reserves have different regulations, so check what is allowed where you are!

The sea and the wind play with the sand along the southern shore of the Falsterbo peninsula. Sandbanks and sandbars are relocated following severe storms. After a storm has passed it's the perfect time to wander along the beach on the lookout for the gold of the sea - amber.

Ljungskogen was once planted to stop the sand from eroding. Today, sand dunes with sea lyme grass and sand sedge lie interspersed among the trees. The idea is that the pine forest will be replaced by oak trees at some point. The heath moor can be found further inland. On warm days, the flowers are buzzing with life.

Beaches for birds and people

In the western parts of the reserve, where overgrowing lagoons with reeds and sea club-rush are dominating, the birds have their sanctuary. The reserve borders onto Ängsnäset, an area that is off-limits during the spring and until mid-July, in order to protect the breeding of the birds. Swimming and outdoor activities can be enjoyed in the eastern parts instead. In the summer, the beach is filled with sunbathers and when the wind is right you can see windsurfers and kitesurfers enjoying the speed of the waves.
