Beskrivelse
This is a legendary site at Ryssby in Ljungby, Småland. The site is located by a spring close to a church environment and roadside.
The spring is named after Sankta Birte, a woman said to have lived in the area and regarded as especially holy. She was said to be so devout that she could hang her cloak in the air, even where there was nothing to attach it to.
The place became associated with her and took on a special meaning. People came here with respect and faith, believing the spring carried healing qualities.
The site reflects how springs in the landscape became linked with ideas of holiness and healing.
It is part of the Land of Legends in Småland (Ljungby, Alvesta and Älmhult), recognized by UNESCO.
The Museum of Legends in Ljungby gathers stories like this and helps explain how belief, nature, and storytelling have been connected.
The site is easily accessible from the road and suitable for short, quiet visits.
