Skärbäck

Skärbäcks nature reserve has a very scenic location between the three lakes Skärsjön, Humsjön and Grytsjön. The area is hilly with mountain heights and stream valleys. The forest is dominated by older beech forests, but there are also smaller alder and oak forest areas with a pastoral character in the reserve.

The fact that there has been forest on the site for a long time has favored species that have a slow spread and are linked to old trees, these are species that are often crowded today. In Skärbäck, several unusual species can be found, such as red pyssling lichen, noble crown lichen, beech spring lichen and lung lichen, all of which grow on beech trunks. The forest is also home to the less common birds wood pigeon and stonechat. The stone curlew is a beautiful finch with a rough beak that it uses to split cherry pits (stones), which it then eats to leave the flesh.

At Lillasjöstigen and Bexellstigen there are well-preserved ollon chains from the Middle Ages. In the ollon chain, the ollon pigs were locked up at night as protection against predators. The wolfs were important because they were used to pay taxes to the bailiff.
