Sandmiljö söder om Fågelöudde

The sandy environment at the edge of the forest 500 meters south of Fågelöudde is home to Lidingö's largest populations of the willow sand bee and the spring silk bee. They are two wild bee species that fly, forage and reproduce in the spring. They depend on pollen from early flowering plants such as willow. They also need open, warm, sandy environments in which to dig nests and lay eggs. Such an environment can be found by the bridleway on the edge between field and forest south of Fågelöudde.

Open sandy environments have become rarer in today's landscape, and thus the animals that depend on these environments have also become rarer. The City of Lidingö, together with the Nature Conservation Association of Lidingö, has received a state LONA grant to improve the conditions for early-flying wild bees on Lidingö. Some of the measures that have been implemented are clearing sandy environments that have begun to overgrow and laying new sand to expand the open sandy environment south of Fågeludde. The measure is also expected to benefit other sand-dwelling species.
