Södraudde

For migratory birds, Södraudde is a welcoming oasis in the dense woodland. The farmland has a past in Lake Nisten, which was drained to create new land. In spring and fall, the vast fields are visited by large flocks of whooper swans, geese, cranes and lapwings. Blue harrier, goshawk and white-tailed eagle are also among the visitors, as are kestrel and goshawk. Golden eagles are also sometimes seen. Red kites and skylarks nest in the area, and on balmy summer nights you can sometimes hear the hooting of barn owl chicks or the calls of corncrakes and quail. Watch and listen from the small gravel road that runs east of Nistingsholmen. Avoid going out into the fields and avoid disturbing commercial traffic.
