Beskrivelse
Skattagård is located on the slope of the Lundaskalle mountain and consists of a 100-year-old oak forest. The oaks are gnarled and low-growing. There is an open meadow in the reserve that is mown with a scythe. Buttercups bloom here, among other things. The reserve is only accessible on foot via the Hallandsleden trail that runs through the northern part of the reserve.
On the slopes of the reserve grows heath forest with 80-120 year old oaks. The oaks have a gnarled and low-growing appearance in the dry and sandy soil. The long untouched forest environment creates conditions for a rich diversity.
Unusual species have been found here
For example, Skattagård is home to the unusual species barley band moss. Another rarity has been found on a couple of maples at the abandoned farmyard in the northwest. Here grows Atlantic moss - only known from about 20 places in the country. Along the Hallandsleden trail in the west there are some larger oaks and hazel bushes. The grove-like environment has a richer flora than in other parts of the reserve. Here you can find ferns as well as the protected species wreathwort. Lesser spotted woodpecker and nuthatch are two bird species that can be seen in the area.
Former heather moor
The Skattagård farm used to be in the northwest corner of the reserve. The houses are now demolished. In Halland's land description from 1729, the area was called Sörby grove. At this time, there was a pasture garden with bushy oaks. Before that, the area was dominated by heather moorland. Since the 18th century, the deciduous forest has spread. Stone walls, which used to keep grazing animals away from the farm's fields and meadows, bear witness to the previous land use. The open grassland in the eastern part of the reserve has at times been used as meadowland. Today the meadow is mowed with a scythe by the Falkenberg Nature Conservation Association.
