Beskrivelse
A walking trail with 15 information boards and a scenic viewpoint overlooking Ludvika. Four iron ore mines were once located on and around the mountain.
Iron ore extraction began in 1630 and continued until the end of World War II in 1945, when it ran out. Production peaked during the war, with around 200 workers in the Lekomberg mine, which at the time was Ludvika’s largest employer. Some final operations continued into the early 1950s.
In 1910, the mine was sold to the German steel company Hoesch AG in Dortmund. It later became part of the Lekomberg group, together with mines such as Iviken, Ickorrbotten, and Håksberg. The iron ore was rich in phosphorus and difficult to sell in Sweden, making it primarily an export product, with most exports going to Germany’s Ruhr region.
Along the shore of Lake Väsman to the right lies Storgården on a peninsula, formerly the residence of Karl-Erik Forsslund—an author, cultural advocate, and founder of Brunnsvik School for Workers.
