The water from the stream not only provided the power to grow crops, but also to run equipment that was essential to the villagers during the subsistence period. Waterwheels powered a shingle planer where roofing shingles were planed, a gristmill where flour was ground and a grinding stone where the scythes were kept sharp during mowing. Despite the time that has passed since the meadows were abandoned, the typical vegetation has been preserved. Even today, species such as haymaking flower, moss violet, sedge and mountain laurel can be seen in the Rörträsk silt meadows.
