Beskrivelse
There are plenty of old, large pines and spruces in the area. Several trees are infested with the pine tick, which grows on trees that are 150-200 years old or older. During test drilling, one pine was determined to be 170 years old and one spruce 145 years old.
The Olsmossen nature reserve borders the Brurmossen nature reserve in Västra Götaland. In addition to Olsmossen, the reserve also includes Brurmossen and Ekhultsmossen.
The reserve is located on a fairly flat plateau at an altitude of 150-165 meters above sea level, and flat rocky ridges run through the bog area. Pine grows on the rocky areas, spruce grows in the damp hollows below the ridges and the wetter parts are either open mire, mire with late-growing pines or swamp forest.
The reserve was established to manage and preserve the valuable forest-marsh mosaic habitat with its species and structures such as dead wood, old late-growing pines, sunlit gaps and moist soil hydrology.
Animals and plants
The reserve has plenty of forest birds and the area is also home to the raggbok, which is worthy of protection.

Rutevejledning
The reserve is located in Värmlands län, Säffle municipality, 10 kilometers west of Säffle. From Säffle, drive north towards Kila on Annelundsvägen 9.9 kilometers. At Kila, turn left and follow signs for Pellerud for about 5.5 kilometers. At Pellerud, turn left again and follow the road signs towards Kallviken. About 3 kilometers in after this gravel road there is a small parking lot with an information sign on the left side, a short distance from the road. The connecting trail from the parking lot to the nature reserve's boundary will be marked along a path that goes in just after the parking lot, but it is not done yet so bring a map or GPS to find it. Olsmossen Nature Reserve can also be reached from the neighboring Brurmossen Nature Reserve in Västra Götaland. There is a hiking trail with a loop that goes to the county border.
Regler
In the reserve it is forbidden to:
- collect invertebrates, such as beetles or land snails
- collecting mosses, lichens or wood fungi
- damaging or removing dead wood such as lying or standing dry trees or dry branches
- drive vehicles,
- use the area in an organized manner for commercial purposes without the permission of the county administrative board, and for schools and institutions to regularly use the area to carry out scientific or other studies.
