Beskrivelse
Oppsjöskogens nature reserve is a small spruce forest area on the well-visited Blacksåsberget west slope. Here you can walk on the Sjuvallsleden trail that passes right on the edge of the nature reserve. The forest and plants offer great nature experiences. Oppsjöskogens nature reserve is located just over 2 miles southwest of Hudiksvall and covers 21 hectares. There are plenty of dead trees in the old spruce forest. This means that many sensitive species thrive here.
The Sjuvallsleden trail passes right next to the reserve boundary. So if you are walking along it, perhaps on your way up to Blacksås nature reserve, you can also take the opportunity to visit Oppsjöskogen.
Old spruce forest and open bogs
Oppsjöskogen nature reserve consists mainly of old spruce forest with a lot of dead wood in various stages of decomposition. There are plenty of old, large spruces, some as old as 170 years. In some parts there is also a large element of old deciduous trees. Above all aspen, but birch and rowan also grow here.
The area also has a few small hillside fens and several small, open bogs bordered by old, late-growing pines.
Dead deciduous trees, young lichen and scent skin
The high natural values of Oppsjöskog are linked to the old, coarse trees. But also the large amount of dead deciduous trees and species worthy of protection, such as lichens and fungi. In order for the forest to have these values, it must not have been used for a long time.
Among the species that can be found in the area are the lichens violet-gray thorn lichen, cat's-foot lichen, aspen yellow lichen and lung lichen. The woody fungus scented skin and the vascular plant missne have also been found.
