Beskrivelse
In July 2018, one of Sweden's largest forest fires in modern times started in Ljusdal municipality. It also burned in parts of the Ängraån nature conservation area. It is now permitted to visit the area but you should be careful as trees may fall.
Ängraån has its headwaters in Härjedalen and flows into Ljusnan, just above Laforsen. The river is completely unaffected by power plant construction and its varied environment with biotopes such as rapids, hollows, standing rocks, shoreline, sand and gravel beaches is one of Gävleborg's more interesting watercourses. The area is located 10 kilometers south of Kårböle and covers 281 hectares. The Ängraån nature conservation area is managed by Ljusdal municipality.
The upper part is steep with many rapids and falls with boulder and rocky beaches. The lower part is wider, more gently flowing and considerably flatter than the upper part.
The flora along the river is rich in species. King Karl's sceptre, goat's rue, mountain carnation, and the only known occurrence of slaughter starwort grow here.
Animals in Ängraån
Otters have been observed in the area. Grayling and trout swim in Ängraån.
