Beskrivelse
Stormossen is a large, flat bog with pools and bog lakes. The bog is surrounded by a fringe forest. The area is of great importance for bird life, and here you can see and hear piping plovers and cranes.
Stormossen is a concentrically structured bog, which means that the highest point of the bog is
in the center of the bog. In concentric bogs, the tussocks have formed long, curved strands, and the hollows have also taken on this elongated, curved shape. At the edges of the bog there is a wet zone with marsh vegetation, a so-called lagg. Out on the mire, there are small pools of water that never dry out, known as gölar, and six mire lakes.
Species such as bottlebrush, meadowsweet and glass birch grow on the bog. The bog is surrounded by a narrow edge forest consisting of an older, closed spruce forest or mixed coniferous forest.
The bog has a rich bird life.
The forest was what is known as a 'smeltery forest' until the smeltery was closed down in 1880. This means that the forest was used for coal cutting and charcoal burning. There are traces of coal mining in the forest in the form of a coal pit. There are no facilities for visitors in the area.

Rutevejledning
Location: Värmlands län, Filipstads kommun, about 4.5 kilometers southeast and east of the southern tip of Lake Alstern. Parking is available at Geijersdalsmossen nature reserve, which is about 1.6 kilometers north of Stormossen Finndalen. Take road 63 between Karlstad and Filipstad. There are road signs to the reserve about 1.5 kilometers south of Brattfors.
Regler
In addition to other statutory provisions, it is prohibited in the reserve to
- felling or otherwise damaging living or dead trees or bushes, standing or fallen
- collect invertebrates, mosses, lichens and wood fungi
- driving a motorized vehicle
- tipping or stockpiling
- digging or pulling up vascular plants
- damaging, rearranging or removing rock, earth or stone,
Exemption:
The prohibition of motorized vehicles does not apply on an existing roadway.
