Ornö: Västergården

Ornö is the largest island in the southern archipelago and has a lot of beautiful and interesting nature. North of Västergården, near the island's main road, are some of Ornö's most beautiful meadows, which unfortunately are partly becoming overgrown. Because the meadows rest on limestone bedrock, the flora here is very rich. The dry meadow slopes are home to orchids such as Adam's and Eve's, soapwort, night violet and spurge. The area is also a good habitat for unusual butterflies such as the Apollo butterfly and hawthorn butterfly.
