Järvsöklacken, Naturreservat

Järvsöklacken is a well-known and well-visited 390 meter high mountain, near Järvsö community. It forms, with its clearly marked heel-like top, a landmark that is visible from many places in the area. A hiking trail leads up to the top from the south and from the northeast. At the top you can enjoy the fine views. The reserve is located about 6 kilometers east of Järvsö town and covers 83 hectares and is most easily reached by car via Kåsjö on the forest road towards Vålsjö. From the reserve parking lot, a 1350 meter long path leads to the top. On the mountain you can experience a magnificent view of the Ljusnan valley. The forest on the mountain is a sanctuary for many unusual plants and animals and the right place if you like to hike in untouched old forests. There is an open barbecue hut, outhouse and woodshed.

A good starting point for a hike up to the top is the parking lot down by the road. The path there is 1350 meters long and the height difference is a full 200 meters. This makes the hike very demanding at times, even for a fit person. But once up, the effort is worth it. The view is breathtaking. It is said that in clear weather you can see 7 different church parishes.

Great variety in the forest

The steep terrain contributes to great variation in the forest, and there are both rocky areas with rocky ground flora and lean fire-affected pine forest, moist, hanging lichen-rich natural forest and herb-rich deciduous forest with the presence of lime.

In the coniferous forest there are large areas of deciduous trees. There are old dry trees, dead wood, living pine trees with fire sounds and old pine trees (around 300 years old). The high age of the forests and the good availability of old and dead trees also benefit many birds such as the three-toed woodpecker and various tits.
