Beskrivelse

Old spruce forest on a steep slope down towards Acktjärnen.
From a nature conservation point of view, Acktjärnsåsen is a very valuable spruce-dominated forest area that harbors a great diversity of species associated with these environments. The area is located about 7 km northeast of Sysslebäck, Torsby municipality, and mainly on an eastern slope with moving groundwater at 500-580 meters above sea level.

The area is largely blocky and steep and has relatively high quality. The ground layer is generally of the fresh moss type, but in places the soil moisture is higher, and there is also a large admixture of white mosses.

There are elements of both older pines and deciduous trees, and in patches, especially in connection with spring flows on the slope, parts can be described as herb-rich. There is also a greater mix of deciduous trees such as willow and birch. There are also small pine-dominated areas on drier ground, sometimes of a lichen-rich type. Traces of previous forest fires are common in these areas, but even in the pine-dominated areas there are, for example, charred stumps.

The area has very high natural values and has great variation in terms of tree age and size. The area has good access to natural structures, such as abundant dead wood in various stages of decomposition and old and coarse trees. The age of the forest is high and spruces have been determined to be over 230 years old. There is little evidence of old-time logging in the area.

Along the shore of Acktjärn there are parts of marsh and swamp forest with high natural values.

Animals and plants

Within the area, 15 red-listed species and 11 signal species have been found, including twig lichen, violet-grey thorn lichen, spruce tick, border tick and three-toed woodpecker.

Outdoor life

The Acktjärnsåsen nature reserve is located less than 4 km from Långberget's sports hotel and in a terrain used for outdoor activities. A hiking trail, Nordvärmlandsleden, runs through the center of the area, and a frequently used snowmobile trail runs through the easternmost part of the area, along the shore of Acktjärn.
