Beskrivelse
Birgitta's headland at Boren is a peaceful environment. Here are the ruins of the medieval castle where St. Birgitta lived and worked. The castle was built in the early 13th century and consisted of a stone house with a cellar and a couple of long wooden buildings. Moats protected it from unwelcome visitors from the land. Today, only the cellar and the dry moats remain, as well as the foundations of the wooden buildings. On either side of the doorway to the cellar there are large holes showing that it could have been closed with a drawbar. Around the castle there are clearing cairns that are traces of stone-cleared fields, which were probably already used when Saint Birgitta lived there. Across the lake in the direction of Kristberg's church, you can often see shiny "streams" on the water surface, so-called Birgitta paths.
1315 was the year when the then twelve-year-old Birgitta was betrothed to Ulf Gudmarsson. The following year the couple married and settled at Ulvåsa. There they lived a family life that lasted for 28 years. Birgitta had eight children and was advisor to the young Queen Blanka.
Nearby there is a dry closet.
