Beskrivelse
The reserve consists of an oak-covered pasture on rolling hills. The oaks have been allowed to spread their crowns and some of the trees are over 300 years old. The ridge in Kungsladugården Biskopstorp is an interesting geological formation that was formed during the Ice Age.
The s-shaped pebble ridge was formed during the Ice Age. As the ice began to melt, ice rivers appeared in tunnels and cracks in the ice. The meltwater brought with it stones, gravel and sand that were deposited when the rivers flowed into calmer waters at the ice edge. The distinctive S-shape of the ridge is a result of the ice river changing direction as the ridge formed. Thanks to the fact that the land around the reserve is kept open, it is still possible to see the ridge winding through the landscape.
Floral splendor
The land around Kungsladugården Biskopstorp has a long tradition of cultivation, which is reflected in the rich flora. As early as April, the wood anemone blooms with large, violet flowers. During the summer, the flowers alternate in color and until September you can still enjoy, for example, meadowsweet and maidenhair. Some 80 herbs have been recorded in the area. In the autumn, mushrooms, associated with unfertilized pastures, stand as flashes of yellow and orange.
Important with grazing
On the gently rolling hills in the eastern part of the reserve there is a pasture with very old oak trees. The area has been kept open for a long time, probably through grazing. The oaks have therefore been able to spread their crowns without competition. To keep the landscape open, we have grazing animals in the reserve.
Really old oaks
In the early 1900s, some of the oaks were felled and turned out to be over 300 years old! Sunlit heathland oaks are very valuable for many unusual species. Gray shield lichen, silver lichen and yellow-powdered spike lichen are examples of lichens that grow on the oaks in the reserve.
