Beskrivelse

The forest on Paradisberget gives a feeling of a wild jungle. There are old trees, mixed coniferous and deciduous forest, plenty of rootwads and decaying stumps with moss on them. The area has been affected by storms in recent years, so be aware that it can be dangerous to walk among storm-felled trees. The area is located 8 kilometers north of Kårböle and 20 kilometers southwest of Ramsjö and covers 47 hectares.

Traces of fires are visible on many of the trees, both in the form of charred wood and so-called fire sounds. Fire blight is a type of trunk damage caused by the heat of a forest fire, resulting in the bark falling off and exposing the wood inside. If the tree survives the fire, it covers the damage with new bark.

Burning forests create diversity and many species, especially fungi and insects, benefit from fire.

Valuable for many

The nature reserve is home to the red-listed mushrooms border mushroom and coral tag mushroom, as well as the rare lichens brown-powdered needle lichen and avenue lichen. Brown-powdered needle lichen usually grows in forests with high natural values and a long-term presence of dead trees.
