Högbränntjärns domänreservat, Naturreservat

Water is at the heart of much of the richness of environments found in this small area. The water makes its way under and above ground, forming swamp forests, bogs and marshes. All with their typical plants and animals. The area is located 18 kilometers north of Ramsjö and covers 11 hectares. The water that collects in Högbränntjärnen is colored brown by needles, leaves and other plant material that falls from the trees around it.

Here, the water lily puts out its flower chalk and the moose might take a dip in search of the juicy roots.

Old forest

The forest around the lake is old. The spruces have been there for 150 years and some pines are as old as 500 years. So they grew when Gustav Wasa reigned approximately.

The old trees that fall down are quickly covered by mosses and all the nutrients saved in the trunk are taken care of by fungi.

A real rarity is the violet mussel, which is completely dependent on forests as old as this one.
