Beskrivelse
The Basttjärnsrönningen nature reserve consists of natural forests, bogs and small watercourses. The northern slopes of Bergen Västertuppan and Baståsen slope down to a wetland. There are no paths in the area, so you can roam freely in the forest. The forests and plants offer great nature experiences. The area is located 13 kilometers northwest of Hassela and covers 178 hectares. The high natural values of the reserve are linked to the lush spruce forest. The large number of deciduous trees, the availability of dead wood and the moist environment also contribute to the area's species richness. A few small streams run through the area.
In some places, spring water emerges from the ground. The flora is rich along the streams and springs. There is, for example, ostrich fern and dwarf horsetail.
Red-listed species in the area
Many of the species worthy of protection in the area are dependent on the presence of old trees and dead wood. As many as 37 red-listed species (according to the 2010 Red List) have been found in the area. This means that one Swedish species is threatened and/or endangered. The red list is produced by the Species Information Center, which assesses the degree of extinction risk.
Some examples are the threatened species black thistle, scented thistle, fine spores, yellow thorn fungus, violet thistle and small horned moss.
Animals in Basttjärnsrönningen
Many birds nest in Basttjärnsrönningen. The wattled crow and three-toed woodpecker have been observed. The three-toed woodpecker nests in coniferous and mixed forest. But also mountain birch forest with a large number of dead and dying trees. Insects and caterpillars are on the menu.
