Description

Kålsö is a beautiful peninsula on southern Mörkö. A lush deciduous forest, with oak, linden, ash and maple trees, rises up between grazed shore meadows and Kålsöfjärden. The old, hollow trees attract insects and woodpeckers, and are home to many rare and endangered lichens. Forest grazing has kept the landscape open and full of light. A wide variety plants cover the forest floor, such as unspotted lungwort, coralroot, bittercress and common toothwort. In the spring, the woodlands are alive with birdsong.

There are no marked trails in the reserve but there are many paths and areas that are easy to walk off-trail. Waterproof shoes are recommended for walking on the damp shore meadows. There are good places for picnics and swimming out by the sea.
