Description

Three-Country Cairn-Golddaluokta, 3 km A gently sloping quad bike road leads down to the boat landing at Golddaluokta, which is a bay in Lake Ylinen Kilpisjärvi. The boat from Kilpisjärvi calls here and many visitors from the Finnish side get to the Three-Country Cairn this way. On the site there is a stopover cabin and a latrine.

Duration: 1 hour

Golddaluokta-Nilsivaara, 16 km The trail section is beautiful and easy to hike, but seldom used. The quad bike road from Treriksröset continues through mountain birch forest up Mount Dant slope. After climbing about 200 metres to the bare mountain, the trail evens out. After the usually easy wade across Guolbanjohka stream, the quad bike trail turns into a path. Now follows an easily-hiked stretch with excellent views of Lake Kilpisjärvi. The path is difficult to see on the mountain, but unpainted cairns mark the trail and make orienteering easier, at least in clear weather. In fog it can be more difficult to follow the trail. After the south summit of Bavváloaivi mountain, the descent begins back down to the birch forest. The faintly visible path eventually becomes a quad bike road. The trail is easy to hike and runs through sparse birch forest which is marked by the ravages of the autumnal moth. At Nilsivaara height, the path joins the trail between Kummavuopio and Pältsa. There is a signpost at the fork.

Duration: 5-7 hours
