Östgötaleden – Medevi - Övralid

Medevi: From Brunnsparken, a hiking trail starts south towards Nubbekullen with the final destination Övralid. In Medevi you can park your car. You can also sleep and eat at Medevi Brunn. The trail starts on a pebble ridge. The filtering ability of the pebble ridge has probably contributed to the good water quality in the Medevi well.

Nubbekullen: You walk on paths and gravel roads down to Nubbekullen where Johan August Malmström was born. Johan August Malmström was a Swedish artist and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts 1867–1894. Attracted by Gothicism, he drew motifs from Norse mythology. He was also much appreciated for his rural motifs with children in. His most famous painting is "Grindslanten", which, like many other of his paintings, was spread across Sweden via the large family magazines. He was a diligent illustrator and worked for several different newspapers and book publishers. Among other things, he made illustrations for the books Frithiofs saga and Fänrik Ståls sägner. Malmström also designed tableware for Gustavsberg, designed furniture and worked as a pattern designer.

Övralid: The trail ends in Övralid, Verner von Heidenstam's (1859-1940), national poet and the Nobel Prize winner, last home. The classically stylish house was built according to the author's own drawings on the slope above Lake Vättern. In 1925 he was able to move into the new house which is today preserved as he left it when he died in 1940. During the summer, Övralid is open to visitors. Here you find a Café, parking space, rest area and toilet. Övralid has a breathtaking mile-wide view of Lake Vättern.
