Description

The rock carvings at Möckleryd (Horsahallen) are unique with more than 150 figures carved into an area of 20×10 metres. Here you can see eighty-five ships, the soles of eighteen feet, ten animal figures, two human figures, three circular and about ten other indeterminate figures and about twenty bowl-shaped pits. The rockface takes its name from two images of horses. With their long drawn-out bodies and stretched-out necks, they are typical of the horses in Bronze Age rock carvings. Some of the carvings have been filled in at a later date to make them more visible while others are harder to see. Hästhallen is is undoubtedly the largest rock carving site in Blekinge. The fact that so many designs were carved in this spot indicates that this was a gathering place for a cult, for community and possibly for exchanging goods. These carvings have been known since the late eighteenth century and were originally in a completely open landscape. The pine forest was planted later. To recreate the landscape as it would have been in the Bronze Age, you need to imagine it without the pines and only with the heather. Source: hembygd.se
